Starting <strong><em>Francesca\u2019s Foundlings <\/em><\/strong>is proving to be more challenging than I thought it would.\u00a0 I have the characters: Franny, Brid, Sofia, Neil and Brendan but what to do with them?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t you work from an outline?\u201d I hear you asking in a somewhat shocked tone.\u00a0 What you get in response is a hedged answer, \u201cI want to, I should.\u201d If I am really cornered, \u201cSister told me to.\u201d\u00a0 Writers fall into two categories, structured and intuitive, according to <a title=\"Walter Mosley's website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.waltermosley.com\/\">Walter Mosley <\/a>in <strong><a title=\"Amazon Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0316065498\/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&amp;pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&amp;pf_rd_t=201&amp;pf_rd_i=0316065412&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=18CP6GCJJY9PEYP0P0YS\">This Year You Write Your Novel<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 A structured writer knows the whole story before she begins to write it. The intuitive writer puts the characters in motion and follows them through the pages, scribbling madly in their wake.\u00a0 The downside of this is that you have days when you just stare at the computer monitor without a clue as to what you should write.
